An intense study in the rules of class boundaries, crossed with American-British dichotomies. Bogdanovich's faithful adaptation of James' story concerns the courtship of a beautiful but flirtatious American girl Daisy Miller by a sophisticated, upper class British compatriot named Winterbourne. Miller's refusal to observe class boundaries in her flirtations leads Winterbourne to respond negatively to her-with dire consequences.
